What is Red Booth ?

Red Booth is a sequel to Goodwill that is the story of Tomas and Sofia building up their marriage by tearing it apart. It’s going to be what I wanted Goodwill to originally be structure wise. It’s going to be a time jumping saga about the events that define Tomas and Sofia’s estranged relationship over the years and also the story of the summer they fall back in love again. It’s a tall order ya’ll. I will be expanding on Tomas and Sofia's world and Adam does play a big part in this, along with Sofia new best friend Layla and Toma's boss Venus.

I wrote the first chapter of Red Booth after writing the chapter where Tomas and Sofia arrive in Petal Brooke. I wanted to write about them reflecting on that moment and seeing how far they’d come and they were in a restaurant coming back from a funeral and Charity sort of popped up and her backstory was refined between writing Red Booth and writing Goodwill at the same time. For example at first Donna only showed up in Red Booth but then I wrote her into Goodwill.

 

What was that ending of Goodwill ?

Okay, so I had a plan for Goodwill to be about three things happening in interstitial chapters :

1.     Sofia spending the summer in Riverside during the trial

2.    Sofia getting a CNA job, Tomas becoming wheelchair bound

3.    Tomas and Sofia being homeless and moving to Queens

Sound familiar ?

It’s the first four chapters of Goodwill.  I started to write the Riverside chapters that were supposed to go in between the NYC chapters and I realized the Riverside portion, that  THIS was the story I wanted to tell. I was sort of just going along when I remember why Tomas and Sofia meant to much to me …it was because they are based on my IRL experiences and one of my big defining experiences was adopting my kids and I think that is why Charity also popped up.

To be honest I wrote a little snippet like three years ago about a teenage Elijah and for some reason I had this nagging feeling he wasn’t an only child…more on that later.

 I sort of struggled with this ending because I was already into the next phase. Which means for me Veronica has always been dead…

With that said I really owe all of this to Vegas, writing that Tomfia scene made Goodwill click because (I've said this before) the first chapter of Goodwill was supposed to be part II  of Vegas (Sub, the motel for a Vegas hotel room...also I wanted Sofia and Fierro to have tea together...) Like I literally had nothing until then.

. . .so I popped this out in about three years . . .

In age order

Tomas – 34

Sofia – 30

Elijah – 8

Charity - 11

My math might be slightly off here, but I could not write the main timeline of this serial taking place in the summer of 2016.

What’s next ?
Erm…well. I don’t have anything as done as this was. Like I had this entire story drafted by the time I started re-posting. I want to say Sincerely, Emile has to be next because I need it to come before Blue Water purely for thematic reasons.

At this point the  third installment in my New Aeterna universe is done in a real rough draft, but I’ll need you all to forgive the tone-death violence…

Red Booth is going to be a minute even though the ideas are coming at me fast.
